Dr. Mark Holterman, A Visionary With a Heart of Gold

Dr. Mark Holterman like most Renaissance men is busy. This surgeon, educator, and researcher is also a philanthropist who finds time through his contributions to the health-related charity IPSAC-VN, the International Pediatric Specialists Alliance for the Children of Vietnam, to help save and change the lives of poor and disenfranchised children who face serious medical problems when they are sick.

This poor farm boy from Wisconsin was an exceptional student. His excellent grades and his willingness to follow the advice of a teacher led him to Yale University where he received a B.A. in Biology. His studies took him from there to the University of Virginia where he received his M.D. and Ph.D. This board certified surgeon has been in practice in Peoria, Illinois for over twenty years.

It is his work with medical charities for the children of the poor especially in Vietnam that he finds most gratifying. He has always been willing to give of his time as well as his money, and as a tireless researcher, he is constantly looking for new therapies that will provide treatments and cures for common medical maladies. It was his love for his wife’s native people, however, and his passion for medicine that directed his heart to the development of self-sustaining care that is so needed in countries like Vietnam. After realizing how great the need for pediatric surgery was he became a volunteer (http://reporterexpert.com/dr-mark-holterman-fights-childhood-obesity-chicago/). He works at Vietnamese hospitals and medical schools to bring the latest technical and surgical advances to the country’s sick children. His support of and work with IPSAC-VN helps to ensure that the latest surgical advances and healthcare activities make it to even the remotest areas of Vietnam. Dr. Holterman believes his efforts to help educate a new generation of teachers, surgeons, and healthcare practitioners will modernize childcare throughout the country (Behance.net).

Dr. Holterman is also a Co-founder of the Alliance for the Advancement of Cellular Therapies. This therapy transplants human cell to injured or diseased areas on the body to assist the body’s natural ability to fight disease and restore tissue and cells. It is hoped that his studies with stem cells will ultimately produce cutting-edge treatments for cancer and diabetes.
