Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin Partner with other Arizona Charities with The Frontera Fund

Despite the President’s attitude towards immigrants, there are still millions of kind souls in America. These are people that don’t want to keep a person out of the country simply because of the color of their skin. Charities all over the country are going above and beyond in order to assist immigrants of the United States.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are two altruistic residents of Arizona. For years, as a part of the Phoenix New Time, Michael Lacey did everything in their power to stop Joe Arpaio, the then-time Sheriff of Maricopa County. Now, with The Frontera Fund, they are working to put an end to all racial injustices in Arizona.

The Frontera Fund works with the ACLU, the American Immigration Council, Can the Border Divide Us?, and dozens of other charities to bring peace of mind, relief, and joy to the Hispanic residents of Arizona. Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, along with hundreds of other people, were victimized by Joe Arpaio. Joe Arpaio’s primary target was Hispanics. It is for this reason that Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are helping Latinos in Arizona. They are trying to offer their apologies on behalf of Joe Arpaio.

The ACLU of Arizona has successfully challenged Arizona and won on numerous occasions. Only a year after its foundation, the ACLU of Arizona helped overturn a ban on multi-race marriages.

Promise Arizona is another charity that works with The Frontera Fund. The organization is more commonly known as Paz, which means peace in Spanish. This organization was founded in 2010 and went on to conduct a 103 day prayer vigil in Phoenix in protest of SB 1070.

“Promise Arizona’s mission is to train and develop a new generation of leaders to help build an Arizona that is welcoming to all people,” said Otoniel Nevarrete, the operations director of Promise Arizona.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin have been partners for the entirety of their careers. They met each other in college, organization a liberal based newspaper in protest of their school’s conservative views in concern to student protests. Their success in college resulted in them leaving school early to pursue a career in journalism.

The duo eventually created Village Voice Media with a few more of their peers. Eventually, under the banner of Village Voice Media, newspapers all over the country were owned and operated by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin.

They have left their newspaper companies behind in favor of more noble causes like The Frontera Fund.
