Herbalife’s New Coffee May Take the Supplement Industry by Storm

Many beverage companies are taking to adding amounts of protein to their drinks for the health benefits and increased marketing opportunities this represents. A great example would be the Barbell Brew by Musclefood Brewery, a beer loaded with protein, targeting gym-going men and women. This trend presents exciting opportunities for many nutrition companies, as they already have experience in the supplement industry and now have a chance to experiment with new flavors. One new contender in this field is Herbalife’s new iced coffee, packed with protein.

Herbalife was started in 1980 by Mark Hughes, with a focus on the development, marketing, and sale of nutrition supplements, weight management, sports nutrition, and personal-care products. Hughes stated that the goal of the company is to change the nutritional habits of the world, with the earliest products from the company being shakes designed to help people manage weight. The company has since expanded to offer various products designed as broad dieting supplements to products designed to supplement a specific aspect of a diet, such as muscle mass for athletes and bodybuilders or vitamin supplementary products. Herbalife is present in over 90 countries, with the company having been incorporated in the Cayman Islands and the headquarters located in Los Angeles, California.

While Herbalife is no stranger to the supplement industry, their newest product may quickly become their hit product. Herbalife’s Mocha High Protein Iced Coffee is a low calories drink, having only 100 calories in a single serving, but packing a whopping 15 grams of protein and 80 mg of caffeine. This tasty new drink is an attempt by Herbalife to target the coffee drinkers of the United States. Many people in the United States love the taste of iced coffee but do not like the massive amounts of calories that inevitably accompany the popular beverage. A low calorie, high protein supplement that still offers the caffeine present in a normal coffee would be a boon to many Americans and will surely draw the attention of the American public.

Herbalife already has an incredibly successful history with supplements, and show no sign of stopping in the near future. This new trend in the market of alternative sources of protein in the form of beverages offers up many avenues for the still youthful company, and this coffee is just the first step in a new direction that could lead to a veritable gold mine in sales if properly marketed.
